Back in 2002, girl groups were still dominating the charts. Everyone from Destiny’s Child & TLC to 3LW & Isyss were taking radio stations and Billboard by storm, but there was a little known teen girl group that was slowly warming up to the masses before their debut got shelved.
We’re talking about former J Records recording artist Lyric, a trio comprised of three young ladies who put together a self-titled project that never saw the light of day and is much of a rarity for online consumers.
They were known in the press for three singles, but one (“Young & Sexy”) was the only song that saw chart recognition. On the Loon-assisted number, produced by former Jennifer Lopez arranger Jack Knight, Lyric sings about being fun and lively in the club; and how they are destined to hook up with a sexy young gentleman who drives their respective senses crazy.
Though the song failed to serve as a commercial success per the charts, it did manage to score a few cinematic soundtrack features; namely the 2002 cult favorite “The Hot Chick”. Reminisce with us after the jump:
