With the 2015 Soul Train Awards right around the corner, it was only right that we at True Exclusives revisit some of the most memorable performances and moments of the soulful historic event. For this #FlashbackFriday we have snagged performances from the 90’s which include, Tamia, Brandy, Michael Jackson, and more to help reel in the already highly anticipated event which airs this Sunday on BET and Centric!

Now yall know we couldn’t dig into the vault without snatching ‘Miss Thang’, and R&B veteran Monica out to join our list. The now mother of 3 took the stage of the 1999 Soul Train Awards, almost 2 decades ago, to deliver a pure rendition of her number 1 hit single ‘Angel of Mine.’  Peep the angelic performance below.

When you think of the perfect tribute, Tamia is automatically who comes to mind. The soulful songbird delivered a chilling tribute to the legendary Anita Baker at the 2010 Soul Train Awards. Tamia’s voice was soooo perfect for “Giving You The Best“, as you can hear the audience shout after Mrs. Grant’s utters her very first note! Well done!

Destinys Child ignites a touching tribute for babygirl, Aaliyah at the Lady of Soul Awards! The legendary trio Michelle, Kelly, and Beyonce each held their own as they soared with their enchanting live solos to their covered chart topping single ‘Emotions‘. Saaaaang Ladies!

One of the most EPIC performances on the Soul Train Awards, of course was delivered by none other than the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. MJ certainly paved the way for trailblazing and trendsetting performances, when he and his army of dancers took the stage to set it off with ‘Dangerous‘, followed by a relieving solo performance of his hit song ‘You Are Not Alone.‘ See what went down at the 1995 Soul Train Awards below!

So this Sunday, Grammy Award winner, Brandy will be taking the stage to tribute the legendary Singer/Songwriter, Babyface. Almost 2 decades later, B.Roca will revive her chart topping single ‘Sitting Up In My Room‘ which was written by Babyface for the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack.

Peep Brandy 20 years ago, slaying the fresh cut rocking her signature braids, and introducing a sickening dance breakdown! This only makes us even more excited to see what she brings this Sunday!

Last but certainly not least, we have to share the voice that influenced generations to sing. Mother, Whitney Houston, never needed an entourage, as she moved the world with just her anointed vocal chords, that donned her the title, ‘The Voice.’ One of our favorite Whitney performances, is undoubtedly her performance of ‘You Give Good Love’ at the 1987 Soul Train Awards! Take a gander of the flawless live performance below

What do you think of these performance? Any faves, anything we missed? Drop your truth below!
