Spike Lee’s new movie “Chiraq” has received a new trailer, a month ahead of its release.
The film centers on gang violence by men in some of Chicago’s neighborhoods, based on the Greek comedy “Lysistrata,” by Aristophanes.
The trailer starts with a flashing “This is an emergency” repeated three times, followed by basic story of women deciding that they are going to withhold sex via the pledge “I will deny rights of access and entrance. It showcases Teyonah Paris, who stars as Lysistrata.
The movie’s stacked cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Nick Cannon, Dave Chappelle, the rapper Sasha Go Hard, and John Cusack.
Chiraq is set for limited release on December 4.
Meanwhile, more than 1,000 people have been shot in Chicago this year, which tops 2014 (933) and 2013 (817). The city has also seen more than 500 homicides in the last 10 years. The film, which is being positioned as a potential Oscar contender.
