After dishing in several interviews and media outlets, it is clear that both singers Ariana Grande, and Jessie J share a common interest other than their top 10 singles, and that is their love for R&B singer Brandy. Both have revealed that ‘B.Roca’ has been a huge influence on them, so it is only right that the two powerhouse vocalists would eventually pay homage to ‘The Vocal Bible’.
Hit producer Rodney Jerkins, known for creating what is considered an R&B masterpiece, Brandy’s ‘Full Moon’ album is celebrating his 20th anniversary in the music industry by recruiting new and recognized artists to cover some of his biggest records. One of the first songs geared to surface is the remake of the 1998 Monica and Brandy Grammy Award winning duet “The Boy Is Mine” starring Ariana Grande and Jessie J.
In celebration of his 20th anniversary in the business next year, famed record producer/songwriter Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins revealed that the two pop superstars will rework Brandy and Monica’s classic 1998 hit “The Boy Is Mine” for his commemorative album.
Do you think that this is a good idea, or do you believe a classic should never be retouched?
Rodney also revealed that Sam Smith is doing an updated version of Whitney Houston’s “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.” Jerkins says:
“When I asked him if he’d be a part of this project he was like, ‘No one else can do that song but me!”
