The Lifetime Network has announced a biopic about the late singer’s tumultuous relationship with Bobby Brown. The film will be directed by Angela Bassett, Houston’s 1995 “Waiting To Exhale” co-star.
This is a good idea and yet the worst thing they can do to celebrate the life of the great Whitney Houston. With biopics for legendary athletes, rappers, and singers that have stormed the box office and theaters worldwide, We can’t put our finger on why they would develop Whitney’s biopic on the lackluster Lifetime Movie Network. I don’t know if our readers have seen any lifetime movies or biopics, but they do absolutely nothing to highlight the most important, scandalous, and just accurate moments of a person’s life. Please refer to (The Gabby Douglas Story) Thumbs Down!
The Academy Award-nominated Bassett said of her directorial debut: “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments, and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story.” Fortunately for Angela, everyone has great regards for their talents, but there is so much more that the people want to know about one of the greatest singers to ever live, and unfortunately producing such film on Lifetime will restrict and inhibit these desires. Even with the Oscar winner’s experience in films such as ‘What’s Love Got to do with it?‘, and Michael Jackson’s biopic ‘An American Dream’ isn’t enough to make me believe that Lifetime will give her enough room to do what’s needed to deliver the full Whitney Houston experience.
There are no words on casting as of yet, but we do know that the film set to follow the relationship between the late Houston, and her other half Bobby Brown. I hope that during this time of development, Bassett receives an offer to produce the film on a larger scale. In the meantime here’s my dream cast for the upcoming production if it hits theaters, Not for Lifetime!
Joy Bryant as Whitney Houston
Chadwick Boseman as Bobby Brown
Dustin Hoffman as Clive Davis
Phylicia Rashad as Dionne Warwick
Michael B Jordan as Ray J
Meryl Streep as Diane Sawyer
Keke Palmer as Bobbi Kris
