While everyone continues to recover from this past weekend’s Beyoncé massacre, Billboard has named the “Jukebox Hero,” Bruno Mars, as Artist of the Year.
Beating out the likes of Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cryus, and other pop stars who grabbed major headlines this year, Mars’ chart appearances for 2013 has slotted him in the number one spot on 8 of Billboard’s year-end lists.
Mars’ artist of the year nod may come as a surprise, says Billboard, in its year-end issue. But as if on a stealth mission, the adventurous Unorthodox Jukebox commanded a steady presence on the Billboard 200 following its No. 2 debut last December.
Unorthodox Jukebox hung onto the top 20 every week through September 14th, landing at No. 1 in its 12th week. Having now sold 1.8 million copies, ranking in the Top 25 tours of the year, looking forward to the Grammys, overseas tour dates, and of course the Super Bowl Halftime show, this title is definitely well deserved.
Congrats to one of the hardest working men in show business!
