The Obama family celebrated Thanksgiving by volunteering their time and help the less fortunate. They kicked off the holiday season with the traditional “Presidential Pardon” of Popcorn the Turkey.
President told the crowd that gathered at the White House yesterday:
“The office of the presidency—the most powerful position in the world—brings with it many awesome and solemn responsibilities… “This is not one of them.”
Dressed in a casual ensemble consisting of a checkered button-down with the sleeves rolled up and khakis, President Obama asked each person who received an orange bag of food how they were doing.
During the annual turkey pardoning ceremony earlier in the day, Obama said that he and his family will be taking two less fortunate gobblers to the charitable establishment where the first family have been helping out since moving to the capital four years ago.
‘The First Family will continue their annual Thanksgiving tradition and participate in a service project at the Capital Area Food Bank. They will be joined by family and friends including members of the Oregon State men’s basketball team.
In his remarks at the rose Garden, Obama encouraged other Americans to follow his example.’I’d like to ask every American to do what they can to help families who are in need of a real Thanksgiving this year,’ he said.
