The year was 1997 and the then teen Usher was making his big return after a moderately successful debut album which sold about 300k copies four years earlier. This time Ush, 18 years old came to make a name for himself. Backed by heavy hitter producer Jermaine Dupri, ‘You Make Me Wanna’ debuted and by all accounts was a smash. The track made top ten on several charts including Billboard Hot 100 & R&B, and received several awards including Billboard, Soul Train, and a Grammy nomination. It was also his first major over seas success (peaking no.1 in the UK)
The video, which showcased his newly found teen heart throb physique and vocals. Usher sang and grinded his way back into the hearts of teen girls everywhere and who could forget the infamous pant drop. The ‘My Way’ album went on to sell over 6 million copies and established him as one of R&B and pops best, which is where he remains to this day. Lets get to it, today’s throwback ‘You Make Me Wanna’
