What keeps music fresh is its way of reinventing itself through new artists ready to put their mark on music history. And Cocoa Sarai seems to have found a beautiful balance between the past and the present. Hailing from the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York, Cocoa Sarai’s soulful delivery over today’s club driven style of production has given her a unique sound she refers to as “Pop-Soul.” With performance influences such as Prince, Janis Joplin, Kanye West, Billie Holliday & Mary J. Blige, she strives to push the envelope each time she’s on stage.
In March of 2010 Cocoa independently released a 15 track CD via iTunes entitled ½ Past Seven on which she wrote every song. Her first single “Ring” and her second single “Camera’s On” have received much praise from numerous outlets including 5-star DJ reviews on Hottwax.com and Digiwaxx.com. Standing at barely five feet tall, Cocoa Sarai is the epitome of a true artist. Her larger than life personality as well as emotional wisdom far beyond her years can be heard throughout her music. “Music is therapeutic. I write and sing from my soul.”
