The second you press play on Steph Jones Lifetape, you’ll feel as if you just stepped off a spaceship that crash landed on a planet you’ve never even heard of. A planet you’ll never want to leave. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to hear some refreshing “real” music. Steph, who was once signed to Def Jam (or Deaf Jam as I like to call them) has a voice reminiscent to that of a young Donny Hathaway. On “Gravity” he evokes a vocal emotion that in my opinion surpasses John Mayer’s version. On “A Girl Named Hollywood” he sings about a touchy topic, a girl who goes to L.A. in pursuit of her dreams, but makes all the wrong choices. From start to finish, it’s pretty clear that Jones poured his heart and soul into this mixtape, which probably explains why he calls it his “Lifetape”. This record gives hope that R&B and real music are not dead. It’s just lost in the shuffle of underrated artists. Download this lifetape, NOW!
