The moment most of us music lovers were waiting for, occured earlier this morning via a pre-taped concert segment on Good Morning America. Whitney “the voice” Houston took to the stage, in what was a much hyped, much anticipated performance. Did she deliver? No. Not vocally at least. This performance proved the theory that Houston’s voice has deteriorated within the last few years. As I watched performance after performance, I cringed. This surely was not the diva I once knew. A woman who, even at her worst vocally, could still shut down most other performers. Not anymore though. Houston made the audience hit most of what were to be, her high notes. Anytime she didn’t attempt to hit a note, she’d point the mic to the crowd and say “Sing!”. She also banked on the help of backing tracks and her backup singers. Alas, she did provide an excuse, as to why she was hoarse; “I did ‘Oprah’. I’ve been talking for so long. I talked so much. My voice…I shouldn’t be talking” she said. Nor should you be singing. I’m sure the majority of you will say I’m being too harsh. Nonetheless, the proof is in the pudding. Ya girl’ just doesn’t have the voice anymore. Such a sad, sad day. Hey, at least it was nice seeing her up there, having fun, dancing around and praising the lord. Her new album is in stores now and is predicted to sell more then 200,000 copies in its first week. Some say, that’s a bad number. I think that’s great. Especially during a time in music where most folks aren’t selling. Not to mention she’s had very little promo, or a music video. Check out the performance below and let me know your thoughts.
