Mariah Carey’s newest film “Tennessee” finally opened up this past weekend with limited releases in New York City, Memphis, Nashville, Dallas, and a handful of other cities. TruExclusives had the pleasure of seeing  the film while covering the 2008 Urban Film Festival and I must say, this movie is definitely a departure from the “Diva” Mariah we all know and love. The film is centered around three people who strive to realize their dreams. Brothers Carter (Adam Rothenberg) and Ellis (Ethan Peck) set out on a road trip to their childhood home in a desperate search for their father, who may hold the key to their future. Along the way they meet Krystal, played by Carey, who takes the supporting role of a waitress (married to a borderline abusive cop) who dreams of becoming a country music star. Although the movie itself lacks dramatic impact, there are some fine moments in this small indie film. I even remember us tearing up during a certain scene (you have to watch to know) I definitely recommend this movie to lovers of indie/independent films. If not for that, just watch for the simple fact that Mariah is acting, and i mean really acting. Great job Mimi.
