Most people don’t know, that some of their favorite songs were passed on from one artist to another artist. With help from AOL, Google, and my own knowledge, I have compelled a short list of songs that were passed on from one singer, to become a hit for another artist. Read on!
“Halo” was originally intended for Leona Lewis. Simon Cowell had this song composed specifically for her, but she was too busy to record it. It then landed in the hands of Beyonce. I can actually hear Leona singing this too.
There was alot of controversay surrounding the song “Bed” The Dream had let Chris Brown get a take at it, but quickly changed his mind when he heard J. Holiday sing it. Which in turn, made Brown make some not so nice comments (Implying the song would’nt hit big without him) The song went to number 1 on four different charts, as well as making the top 5 on Billboard’s hot 100. It also put J. Holiday on the map as a solid R&B performer.
“Baby One More Time” TLC turned this song down because they felt they were too mature for it. Britney Spears recorded it and it launched her and the world into a teen pop frenzy. Music world was never the same!
Britney Spears record execs stopped accepting songs for her new album, by the time “Umbrella” was offered. Rihanna took this song to number 1 around the world, and became a superstar literally overnight.
Prior to Umbrella, Rihanna grabbed hold of another passed on song. This one by Christina Milian. “S.O.S” made the world take note of a soon to be mega-pop star. I have always wondered, had Milian recorded this, would she still be having issues in her music career? Guess we’ll never know huh?
Both Pink and Hilary Duff turned down the song “Since U Been Gone” which garnered Kelly Clarkson a #2 smash and proved she had staying power beyond reality tv. I don’t see why Pink turned this song down though, this is very reminiscent of her “Just Like A Pill” days…
